Our mission is to provide the best training we can to help you and your dog.
Good Dog Training was started by Carol, who is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers. All members of the APDT are assessed and train under a strict code of practise because they believe in modern, kind methods using positive reinforcement.
Like us, dogs learn best when they want to rather than when they are made to.
Training can be in a class or on a one-to-one basis so that the training is bespoke. We believe that your dog is part of your family and so should fit in with your family. We aim to help that become a reality.
All classes have a maximum of 6 dogs which means you get plenty of guidance in a relaxed and friendly environment.
Carol is a qualified Agility instructor and Judge, Accredited Canine Hoopers UK Instructor and Accredited Canine Parkours Instructor.
Training can start in your home even before they are able to go out about. They love training as they get your attention and treats - what's not to love! We can help with settling them into the home and setting up routines. Training can then move to my field and then the rest of the world! We cover sit, down, heelwork on and off the lead, leave and of course recall.
We have a full set of Agility equipment set up outdoors in Witley and offer an 'Induction Course' consisting of six one hour sessions to get you started. There are also classes for those who have done some agility but not ready to compete and a class for those who are ready to compete. You can still join our classes if you just want to do it for fun.
Or you can opt for individual sessions.
Hoopers is a fun new activity, which utilises a series of ground-level obstacles - hoops, tunnels and barrels. The challenge of Hoopers is focused on the ability of the handler and the dog to work together around a flowing course.
As this is a low impact sport it is suitable for any aged dog. .
Scentwork is about teaching the dog to find a specific scent, not a specific item. This is a free flowing search style which allows the dog to cover complex areas efficiently and effectively. The handler actively works to support the dog and ensure the whole area has been cleared. Unlike some other forms of scentwork, the handler is an integral part of the search not simply an observer from the sidelines. It builds trust and helps build concentration in young or impulsive dogs. The beauty of scentwork is that each dog works to his or her own ability, as handlers, trainers and assistants constantly respond and fine tune the search according to what the individual dog needs.
Canine Parkour is a physical discipline in which individuals move through their environment and conquer obstacles in their path. It includes climbing, balancing, .It helps them be body aware and develop control.
The dog follows a track laid by a 'tracklayer' As the dog follows the track it has to seek out and recover articles placed along the track by the tracklayer. The track is laid at different times, before the dog work begins, depending on the level of the competition.
